She’s My Hero Event Highlights

What a whirlwind! On Wednesday night at Boone Hall, we had our BIG reveal at the She’s My Hero Calendar Launch Party to benefit the Center for Women. The weather threatened rain(and lots of it) earlier in the day, but we said RAIN or SHINE… it’s on! It turned out to be a warm evening with a cool breeze outside where guests enjoyed the marsh view on the Cotton Dock and the delicious paella, tacos, and noodle dishes from the Dashi Food Truck.  Throughout the night, guests enjoyed the music and the magical lighting from Lowcountry Entertainment.  Lovely flower arrangements in purple and white from Petaloso decorated the tables, and Justin Wham Weddings and Events helped coordinate, set up, provided the cozy seating area near the fireplace, and made sure the stage and the whole space was beautiful along with the rentals from Eventworks. And who doesn’t love something sweet?  Sweet Lulu‘s Bakery, Cocktail Caravan & Pedal Pub brought the wine, sangria, and a mouth watering selection of mini desserts.

Here’s just a quick look at some of the highlights:

It was only fitting that our Emcee was Erin Keinzle of Lowcountry Live, as she helped announced the contest that started it all back in February.  At the event after welcoming everyone, Erin introduced Lisa Dabney, Executive Director of the Center for Women, who talked more about what the Center does for women in business and their upcoming conference in November. Then, we (Wanda and Mell Bell) shared some personal stories and the WHY behind this whole event– to celebrate women, of course and tell their struggles and their stories. We also thanked several of the sponsors, such as Skirt Charleston whose mission is to celebrate and empower women with attitude.

And finally, it was the time we have been waiting for ALL YEAR LONG… revealing the hero photos to the women in the calendar and the whole world. Their reactions were heartfelt and priceless as they saw themselves as their heroes for the first time! The calendar sales opened, and the silent auction continued NOW with the canvas portraits of the Heroes as part of it.

100%… yes all of the proceeds of the silent auction and calendar went directly to the Center for Women. And at the end of the night, we raised almost $5,000, and it’s still climbing!

The fund raising continues as The She’s My Hero Calendars will be on sale for $20 each through the Center for Women. Get your calendar at their conference at Trident Technical College on Nov 15 and 16th or contact them for more info.

She’s My Hero Sponsors

To celebrate women, their diversity and empowerment, mellBella Photography created the She’s My Hero Project to raise funds for the Center for Women.

Back in March for Women’s History Month, we held the She’s My Hero Contest where we asked local women to tell us who their heroes were.  The contest winners received a photoshoot from mellBella styled as their hero. Also, each winner received a gift basket filled with donations from local businesses.

The photos from the contest winners will be in the 2019 She’s My Hero Calendar. ALL sales of the Calendar will benefit the Center for Women directly. To be included in the calendar, all sponsors must have all information submitted by August 31st. Silent Auction donations should be submitted by September 28th.

On October 10th at Boone Hall, mellBella Photography along with our fabulous sponsors will host the She’s My Hero Calendar Launch Party. Details and tickets coming soon!

We are looking for sponsors for the calendar & event as well silent auction donations, especially from women-owned businesses. We hope you will partner with us for this event. Contact us to receive more information.

She’s My Hero Project Announcement Video

It’s been a dream of ours for a long time to create a great fundraiser to celebrate and support women in our community. We didn’t want to do it alone because together we can make an even bigger difference in our world. So, we created the She’s My Hero Project to raise funds for the Center for Women. We chose the Center for Women as our charity because they truly help women succeed personally and professionally through education, skill building, networking, and much more. In addition to raising funds, we also want to raise awareness about their programs to help even more women. Check out the video below for our big announcement from our appearance on Lowcountry Live:

What am I going  to wear? You finally got the nerve and scheduled your boudoir photography session with mellBella, and now, you don’t know what to wear. Don’t worry! We’ll help you find a great outfit or two or more for you to wear. Many women don’t like their stomachs.  So, let’s talk tummy time. What is going to look best on your body and won’t emphasize the tummy area?bridal boudoir photography charleston

Here is our TOP TEN list for what to wear to look Tummy-Tastic at your boudoir session:

  1. Corset– Although hard to put on, it looks amazing. It emphasizes your waist and breasts. Be sure to check the length of the corset. Some are too short and then the tummy hangs out the bottom. But you can always add a …
  2. Garter Belt–  It’s a great option to add to a corset that might be a little short or to a bra and panty set. The garter belt typically sits just below the belly button, and then you can attach the stockings to it. Be sure to get the stockings that DON’T have the elastic top.
  3. Tutu or Skirt– Who doesn’t love the flirty attitude of a tutu? They come in a variety of fun colors, shapes, and lengths.
  4. High Waisted Panty– It’s not your grandma’s panties anymore! It’s now retro and super cute, especially with the high waist front and the cheeky back to show off your assets.
  5. Babydoll– Most have a bra top to give you support and then a flowy dress bottom. Go bold with color!
  6. Bodysuit or Shapewear– It will give you all over support. You will want to avoid the nude color. Go for basic black or a pop of color.
  7. Lace Dress– Just pair that coordinating bra and panty set with a lace dress or overlay. If the lace dress comes with a g-string panty, throw the g-string out!
  8. Sheer robe– A robe can be a flirty addition to your sexy bra and panty set. You can use it to reveal or conceal different body parts. Show a little leg or little shoulder, etc.
  9. Tank Top– Wear with or without a bra and add a pair of those cheeky or ruffle panties. You can even wear one with his and/or you fav super hero on it.
  10.  Shorts or Pants– Think linen or semi sheer to give just a hint of your body.
